Volunteer FAQs

Who makes Pride happen?

People from the community, just like you! Each year, hundreds of people pitch in to make St Pete Pride happen, and many of those are volunteers.

How many volunteers does it take to put on Pride?

It takes more than 500 volunteers to build, run and clean up the Pride festival and promenade, with approximately 12 volunteers who work year-round to organize and develop the events.

What can I do to help make Pride happen?

There are many ways for you to participate at Pride. Many people prefer to contribute in more than one way! Some people prefer to volunteer year-round; others only help out during the event. Please reach out if you are interested in volunteering for a specific planning committee or event. If you have interest in taking on a lead volunteer role during Pride Month, please email info@stpetepride.com. A link to view events and volunteer opportunities/shifts will be published on this website for you to sign up beforehand.

Do you track volunteer hours?

We do! We use a volunteer management software that can track volunteer hours for us and for you. We love to thank volunteers who have completed volunteer shifts at our celebrations throughout the year. We can sign off on hours needed for school, as well.

Is volunteering for St Pete Pride fun?

Absolutely!!! Volunteering allows you to participate, meet new people, learn new things and will add to your and everyone else’s overall experiences.

Can I volunteer even though I’ve never been to Pride?

Yes! Anyone is welcome to volunteer for Pride!
We do ask that all volunteers be at least 18 years old at the time of the event, or 13+ if you're volunteering with a parent or guardian.

How much time does volunteering take; do I have to volunteer all day?

Most of our volunteers stay for shifts of 2-4 hours. Shift lengths vary depending on the role. A few roles have training sessions that you should plan on attending, and others may include a short set-up or break-down shift. We do not encourage walk-up volunteering, so please use our sign up form to register for your shift ahead of time.

Is there a volunteer briefing I should attend?

Yes! We have an informational briefing for volunteers to attend along with training sessions. These will usually be the week of the event; the person heading up your committee will reach out to you regarding the necessary information.

Can I still volunteer even if I am unable to attend pre-event meetings?

Yes! We need your help! A great deal of work takes place during the event. If there is important information discussed in pre-event meetings it will be passed along via email. However, these pre-event meetings usually include door-prizes, so it’s recommend that you come so you don’t miss out!
